About Machine Science

From equipment to outcomes.

Accelerating OEM aftermarket revenue & equipment-as-a-service transformation.

Machine Science helps capital equipment OEMs capture aftermarket revenue from the machines they have already sold, and moves them toward outcome-based models.

Most capital equipment manufacturers are stuck selling the machine, not the ongoing value their customers need after the sale. Our teams find the aftermarket revenue hidden in your installed base, verify it with your team, and help you capture it.

Mature OEMs earn 3x–5x more from aftermarket than their peers. The gap is rarely lack of demand or effort.

We are currently working with a select group of design partners to bridge that gap in weeks, not the years it used to take.

What Machine Science does

OEM Aftermarket Opportunity Audit

A 15-day audit of one product line’s equipment history and aftermarket records, also known as an installed base revenue audit. You get a verified opportunity map, a data health scorecard, a peer benchmark and a board-ready executive summary. For every $10 Mn worth of equipment audited, we find at least $100,000 in verified aftermarket opportunities, or the audit is free.

Learn more about the audit

Revenue Capture Playbook

For each verified opportunity: a named owner, a pricing action and a 30/60-day milestone, starting with recent, visible assets and then older ones. Your team executes, or we do. You pay for this phase only if we hit the agreed milestones together.

OEM Aftermarket Maturity Assessment

A free 3-minute online assessment that places your aftermarket on a five-level maturity scale and benchmarks you against peers of your equipment type. It scores 5 of our 10 operating dimensions online; the other 5 come up on a follow-up call.

Research on outcome-driven OEMs

With Harbor Research, we publish research on how capital equipment OEMs move from selling machines to selling outcomes. Our first paper shows aftermarket margin by maturity level and three cases of outcome-based pricing.

The phase after your audit

Scoped separately once your audit findings are in, as a roadmap you can implement or let our team do the heavy lifting. It covers:

  • Revenue solutions designed around your customers’ real issues
  • Configurable, personalised packages: tiered contracts or parts-heavy AMC
  • Risk assessment and contract pricing aligned with your organisation’s policies
  • The same sales and support team enabled to sell more
  • A feedback loop across service, sales, asset utilisation and outcomes

What makes Machine Science different

Promised findings in 15 days, or no fees

The audit typically costs $2.5K–$6K, takes 15 days, and carries a written guarantee: at least $100,000 in verified opportunities per $10 Mn of equipment audited, or you pay nothing. Aftermarket work from consulting firms such as McKinsey and Bain is typically scoped as a multi-week engagement at enterprise rates, without a result guarantee.

No software to buy, no IT project

We work from a secure export of records you already have: shipment history, service tickets, warranty logs and parts orders, even when incomplete or partly on paper. Installed base platforms such as Entytle, Syncron and PTC ServiceMax are software you subscribe to and integrate with your systems before they return value.

Built only for capital equipment OEMs

We work with one kind of company: manufacturers of complex, long-life capital equipment. Our benchmarks come from 185+ Capital OEMs across 11 equipment categories, not from the cross-industry averages generalist consultancies rely on.

Paid on results after the audit

The Revenue Capture Playbook phase is billed only when agreed revenue milestones are hit. Most consulting is billed on time and materials, whether or not revenue moves.

You own everything we find

No lock-in, no retainer, no platform. You keep 100% of every opportunity and deliverable, and we never touch your live systems.

Who uses Machine Science

  • COOs and VPs of Operations at capital equipment OEMs, often PE-owned and accountable for margin at a board review.
  • VPs of Service, VPs of Aftermarket and Heads of Aftermarket responsible for parts and service revenue.
  • OEMs whose equipment runs 10–30+ years in the field, with a large installed base and little aftermarket revenue to show for it.
  • OEMs selling into the US, Canada, the UK and Germany.

Not a fit yet: makers of consumables or instruments that are replaced rather than serviced.

Equipment we work on

  • Industrial pumps and valves
  • Furnaces and ovens
  • Boilers and heaters
  • Chillers and heat exchangers
  • Vacuum pumps and systems
  • Compressors
  • Power transmission and distribution
  • Water and wastewater treatment
  • Packaging and bottling
  • Material handling
  • Elevators and escalators

The team behind Machine Science

Why Machine Science exists

Across 14 years of industrial work, the same pattern kept showing up: OEMs sold machines that ran for decades, then lost most of the revenue those machines generated after the sale. Machine Science was founded in 2026 to fix that one problem, starting with the installed base OEMs already have.

The team

Our founding team of consultants, analysts, architects and engineers has served industrial customers for many years.
